Carl Edwards was born on August 15, 1979 in Columbia, Missouri. He currently lives in Mooresville, North Carolina . He is single but has been linked to gold medalist and model Amanda Beard. Smokey and the Bandit is among his favorite movies. Carl comes from a racing background. His father raced modified stock cars and USAC midgets for forty years. Kenny Schrader, Carl's cousin is a NASCAR Nextel Cup driver. At thirteen years old, Carl Edwards decided that racing was his career choice also.
Carl Edwards started racing four cylinder mini sprints. Between 1994 and 1996 he won sixteen feature races in the Mini Sprint Series. In 1997, Edwards started racing in the IMCA modified division in the dirt circuit. He was named Rookie of the Year and won the Capital Speedway Championship in 2000 after winning thirteen feature races. In 2002, he ran seven NASCAR Craftsman Truck races.
In 2003, Edwards started driving in the Craftsman Truck Series for Jack Roush. He earned the title of Rookie of the Year for that series for 2003. In 2005, he started running in both the Busch Series and the Nextel Cup Series. That year, Carl won both the Busch race and the Nextel race at Atlanta on the same weekend. He likes to celebrate his wins with a backflip off the door of his racecar.
Carl Edward's racing career was not always as good as he hoped. He was so desperate at one time that he passed out cards at a Daytona party saying "My name is Carl Edwards and I want to drive your racecar."
Carl Edwards is in this years chase (2007) for the Nextel Cup with three wins, nine top fives and thirteen top tens. He drives the #99 Office Depot Ford for Roush/Fenway Racing.
