Denny Hamlin was born in Chesterfield, Virginia on November 18, 1980. He is currently single. Denny began racing go-karts at seven years old and had more than fifty wins within a nine year span. He won the very first race he ran. He won two state championships during this time.
In 1996, Hamlin raced stock cars in NASCAR's Limited Dash Series. He raced five races in this series and won all five. In 1997, Hamlin raced at Southside Speedway, he had four poles, five victories and ten top fives in ten races. He won the 1997 Southside Speedway Track Championship that year at sixteen years old. That same year he competed in the mini-stock division and was named Rookie of the Year at both Southside Speedway and Langley Speedway.
From 2003 to 2004, Denny Hamlin raced late models. During that time , he had fifty-seven poles and won fifty-four races in eighty-three starts. He also started racing in the Craftsman Truck Series.
Denny started driving in the Busch Series races in November 2004. He ran a full Busch season in 2005. He finished fifth in the championship standings for the Busch Series that year. Hamlin also made his Nextel Cup Debut in 2005 racing for the final seven races. He won a pole and had three top ten finishes during those races. Hamlin ran a full NASCAR Nextel Cup schedule in 2006. He became the first driver to win the Budweiser Shootout in their rookie year. He also won his first Nextel Cup race at Pocono that year.
Denny Hamlin began this season (2007) in Daytona finishing in the twenty-eighth position, a dissapointing start. Hamlin won at New Hampshire International Speedway. He secured his spot in The Chase with that one win, eleven top fives and sixteen top tens.
