Jeff Gordon was born on August 4, 1971 in Vallejo, California and currently lives in Charlotte, North Carolina. Gordon is married to Ingrid Vandebosch and has an infant daughter, Ella Sofia, born on June 20, 2007 in New York City. Jeff Gordon is an awesome driver with four NASCAR Nextel Cup Championships.
It all started when he was five years old racing quarter midgets. His family moved to Pittsboro, Indiana so Jeff could race at a young age. Before Gordon was eighteen years old he won three short track races and won USAC midget Car Racing Rookie of the Year in 1989. He won the Midget title the next year in 1990. At 20 years old he became the youngest driver to win USAC's Silver Crown Title.
Gordon drove for Bill Davis Racing in NASCAR's Busch Series for two years in 1991 and 1992. He set a record by earning eleven poles in one season. Gordon's first NASCAR Winston Cup Series race was also the King of NASCAR's (Richard Petty) last race. Gordon crashed at lap 164 and came in 31st place.
Jeff Gordon started racing with Hendrick Motorsports in the Winston Cup in 1993. He came in 14th in points and won Rookie of the Year for 1993. Critics thought he was too young to race in the Winston Cup. He proved them wrong with his first career win at Lowes Motor Speedway in 1994. In 1995, Gordon won the first of four Winston Cup Championships at the age of 24. He won back to back championships in 1997 and 1998 and another in 2001. He is currently a contender for the 2007 Nextel Cup Championship. There are only two other drivers to win more than four cup championships. They are Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt (SR). They both won seven championships.
Jeff Gordon is recognized as one of NASCAR's best drivers because of his achievements. Gordon is 35 years old and has 80 Nextel Cup wins. This beats Dale Earnhardt's 76 wins. Gordon is sixth on the all time wins list. Jeff Gordon has been at the top of the standings for most of this season (2007). He has five wins so far this season, with six poles, eighteen top fives and twenty-four top tens. Maybe this is the season for championship number five. He has a lifetime contract with Dupont as his main sponsor and with Hendrick Motorsports where he is listed as owner of Jimmie Johnson' #48 Lowes Chevrolet. Jeff Gordon drives the #24 Dupont Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports.
