Kevin Harvick was born on December 8, 1975 in Bakersfield, California. He now lives in North Carolina with his wife Delana. Kevin started his racing career in 1980 with a go-kart given to him for his kindergarden graduation. He raced in the go-kart circuit for ten years and won seven National Championships and Two Grand National Championships.
Harvick began competing in the Featherlite Southwast Series (a division of NASCAR) in 1992. He competed for two seasons on a part time basis while he was in high school. He ran his first full season in the Featherlite Series in 1998 and earned the Rookie of the Year for that series.
Kevin Harvick chose racing over architecture as his career in 1997 claiming it was the only thing he ever wanted to do in his whole life. He has never regretted his choice. He drove in the Craftsman Truck Series for a short time for Richard Childress. Childress offered him a ride in the Busch Series after seeing him race. He ran his first race at Daytona in 2000 for the Busch Series. He won three races that year and won Rookie of the Year for the Busch Series (2000). He was known as an aggressive driver and had many top ten finishes. He earned the nickname "Happy" because of his frequent smile.
Harvick's career began in the Winston Cup when Dale Earnhardt (Sr) died in the last lap of the 2001 Daytona 500. Richard Childress recruited him into the Winston Cup to fill the driver spot. He started driving full time for both the Winston Cup and the Busch Series. He still drives and competes full time in both. He won two Winston Cup races that year. That year, he won Rookie of the Year for the Winston Cup, won the Busch Series Championship title and married Delana (his best friend) - all in the same year.
Kevin Harvick was a contender for last years Nextel Cup Championship as well as this year (2007). So Far, this year he has one win, four top fives and twelve top tens. His hobbies include go-karts, ATVs, skeet shooting and remote control cars. Kevin Harvick drives the #29 Shell/Pennzoil Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing.
