Matt Kenseth was born on March 10, 1972 in Cambridge, Wisconsin. He currently resides in Mooresville, North Carolina with his wife Katie. He also has a young son. His dad offered him a deal when he was thirteen years old. He would buy him a car if he would take care of it and when he turned sixteen he could drive it. So that is where and how his racing career began at sixteen years old. Matt won his first featured event on his third race. By the time Matt was nineteen years old, he was racing late models. He set a new record for being the youngest winner in ARTCO Challenge Series history, a record previously held by Mark Martin.
Matt Kenseth raced all over Wisconsin winning races and track titles. Robbie Reiser, a fellow Wisconsin driver, asked Kenseth to drive for his Busch series team in 1997. He finished second and earned the title of Rookie of the Year in the Busch Series for 1997. He raced his first full schedule for the Busch Series in 1998.
Kenseth started driving in NASCAR's Nextel Cup Series in the 2000 season. He won his first Nextel Cup race at Lowes Motorspeedway and earned the title of Rookie of the Year for NASCAR's Nextel Cup that same year. In 2003, Matt Kenseth won only once. It was in Las Vegas. His consistancy that year kept kim at the top of the point standings for 34 weeks in a row and earned him a championship. It was team owner, Jack Roush's, first (and only at this time) Nextel Cup Championship.
In 2006, Kenseth had four victories in the Nextel Cup races. He came in second (behind Jimmie Johnson) in The Chase. He is a contender this year (2007) for Nextel's chase with one win, eight top fives and seventeen top tens. He races in both the Busch Series and the Nextel Cup and is known for his consistancy on the track. Matt Kenseth is the driver of the #17 Dewalt Ford with Roush/Fenway Racing.
